A hot, queer space for reimagining relationships between city and sea.

The sauna is a space to temporarily transform to become more resilient and tolerant to the elements. Allowing one to experience water, wind and earth differently, for a time, and creating the perfect setting to think about how the city relates to the sea.

In the multispecies sauna, we invite you to dissolve the hierarchical and patriarchal separation between ”man” and ”nature” and inhabit the roles of local coastal species for a dialogue about how urban space and the industrial harbour of Malmö have shaped land and water. Water and its contamination along the coast is as much of a product of the city as the land, buildings, and streets of Malmö. As the city has built up more and more land upon the harbour over the years, so too has the underwater landscape and condition of the coastline changed. Possibly by rethinking the relationship between humans and nature and the city and the sea, we can find alliances to create a more tolerant and welcoming habitat for us all.

MQB, or Malmö Queer-Bastu, is a space made for the queer community – in other words, a space created by and for people who in any or many ways differ from the heterosexual monogamous cisgender norm. This event is not separatist and all are welcome regardless of your sexuality, gender identity and your relationship practices. All participants, perhaps especially those who are not queer themselves, are encouraged to join the event with an open and respectful mindset.
