The Research Relay
In the Research Relay, we invite researchers to briefly share their work in the field of social innovation. Through this relay, we aim to highlight both the breadth and depth of the field—from social change and sustainable development to new solutions for complex social challenges. Here, you’ll meet researchers with diverse perspectives, motivations, and questions that demonstrate how their work contributes to new knowledge and new opportunities. After each profile, the researcher passes the baton on to a new colleague at another institution.

What is social innovation?
Social innovations are innovations that are social in both their goals and their methods. They involve new ideas in the form of products, services, or models that meet social needs more effectively than existing alternatives while also fostering new social relationships or collaborations.
How are social innovations created?
Social innovations are developed through a process that encompasses multiple elements aimed at initiating, establishing, and integrating innovative solutions to societal challenges. At Forum for Social Innovation Sweden, we have developed a model to illustrate what such processes might look like, based on Swedish and international research.
