Collaboration for Social Innovation in Örebro County

Collaboration for Social Innovation in Örebro County (SAMSÖ) is an ESF-funded project led by the Örebro County Region, the Activa Foundation, Fontänhuset Örebro, the Örebro County Adult Education Association, and Örebro University, with the aim of expanding the Partnership for Social Innovation and finding pathways for young people who are neither working nor studying.

Project Background

The proportion of young people who are neither working nor studying has remained relatively constant in Örebro County for several years. Today, it is estimated that approximately 3,700 people aged 16–29 are in the vulnerable position of neither working nor studying. Various initiatives have been and are being implemented, mostly at the municipal level but also within civil society. SAMSÖ aims to mobilize efforts across sectoral boundaries.

The main objective of the project is to reduce the number of young people in the county who find themselves in this situation. The second objective of the project is to broaden municipal participation in the regional collaboration framework for social innovation— the Partnership for Social Innovation in Örebro County.

Here’s how Forum for Social Innovation Sweden is contributing Forum for Social Innovation Sweden the project

Forum for Social Innovation Sweden at Örebro University is participating in the project through both the university’s innovation office and two researchers, John Brauer and Matilda Fredriksson. The node’s goal is to strengthen and broaden direct collaboration with the Partnership for Social Innovation in Örebro County (PSI), as well as to facilitate co-creation between researchers, civil society, and the public sector. In this way, the node aims to contribute to strengthening research on social innovation at the university.

The hope is that the project will also serve as a model for future collaboration and knowledge exchange between the partners, as well as help strengthen society’s ability to develop and think about innovations—something that, in the long run, could pave the way for more extensive collaboration in the future.
