“Collaborative Research That Transforms Skåne” is the name of the initiative for which Forum for Social Innovation Sweden the Sten K Johnson Grant. Through short, impactful videos, the initiative aims to highlight research conducted at Malmö University in collaboration with other stakeholders in Skåne.
“The goal is to use these videos and communications through MSI’s and Malmö University’s channels to raise awareness of the positive societal impact that collaborative research has in Skåne,” says Hanna Sigsjö, Executive Director of Forum for Social Innovation Sweden.
A common thread running through the 2030 Agenda, the new research bill *Research, Freedom, Future – Knowledge and Innovation for Sweden*, and Horizon Europe is the emphasis placed on the importance and necessity of cross-border research, collaboration, and innovation to address complex societal challenges. Identifying and tackling the challenges of the future is also a high priority at Malmö University. Through research and the development of knowledge and innovation across borders, the university facilitates the application of knowledge in areas such as sustainable urban development and social inclusion in housing, health, and lifelong learning.
There is a growing need to disseminate facts and knowledge
Today, there is a growing need to describe the impact of research on society in a concise, clear, accessible, and popular science manner. Digitalization enables communication in new ways, through new formats and channels, making it possible to share facts and knowledge with a wider audience.
Highlighting the results of collaborative research through short films
Forum for Social Innovation Sweden been awarded a grant from the Sten K Johnson Foundation to carry out the project “Collaborative Research That Transforms Skåne” and to highlight examples of research conducted in collaboration with other stakeholders that helps solve complex societal challenges in new ways.
Through short, impactful videos, Forum for Social Innovation Sweden plans Forum for Social Innovation Sweden highlight research that:
- addresses current social issues,
- is carried out in collaboration with stakeholders from other sectors and
- contributes to positive social impacts in an innovative way.
Building on a successful concept
Forum for Social Innovation Sweden build on a concept that has proven successful. In the spring of 2021, Forum for Social Innovation Sweden and published short videos and in-depth articles under the title “Collaborative Research That Is Changing Sweden.”
This is not the first time that Forum for Social Innovation Sweden funding from the Sten K Johnson Foundation. Forum for Social Innovation Sweden previously applied for and had the pleasure of receiving funding from the Sten K Johnson Foundation for the book “100 Social Innovations That Can Change Sweden” which has been widely distributed.

The Sten K Johnson Foundation is aimed at individuals, organizations, and companies (with ties to Skåne) that possess the vision and drive to develop projects in the fields of education, culture, medicine, technology, entrepreneurship, literature, and music.
