Forum for Social Innovation Sweden Launches a Series of Scientific Seminars on Social Innovation

Forum for Social Innovation Sweden a new academic seminar series on social innovation. The aim is to create a platform for knowledge exchange between researchers and doctoral students from various disciplines and universities, by providing an opportunity to present and discuss current research on innovative solutions to societal challenges.

Forum for Social Innovation Sweden is a national knowledge and collaboration platform for social innovation. Through research-based knowledge and cross-sectoral collaboration, Forum for Social Innovation Sweden works Forum for Social Innovation Sweden strengthen social innovation as a force for social change. One of Forum for Social Innovation Sweden strategic development areas is to strengthen the role of research on and within cross-sectoral collaboration and social innovation. That is why Forum for Social Innovation Sweden is launching Forum for Social Innovation Sweden series of academic seminars on social innovation.

This series of academic seminars further strengthens our work, which we hope will contribute to both the field of research and societal development,” says Sara Bjärstorp, Executive Director of Forum for Social Innovation Sweden. 

Study on the Mentor Mom Program is the first in the seminar series

The scientific seminar series begins on April 28 with Per Kåks as the guest speaker. Per Kåks is a medical doctor and health systems consultant at Lumell Associates. He will present the study Mentor Mothers as trust brokers between immigrant communitiesthe Swedish welfare system: A qualitative study  which deals with the Mentor Mothers program, a South African social innovation that has been transferred and adapted in an innovative way to Sweden. Through ACT Svenska kyrkan, the Mentor Mom model has been introduced in Sweden. In Malmö, Mentor Moms operates under the name “Yalla Lotsar” by the women’s cooperative Yalla Trappan, on behalf of the City of Malmö. In Gothenburg, Mentor Moms is run by the nonprofit association Tidigt Föräldrastöd, with project funding from the General Inheritance Fund. 

The presentation will be followed by a discussion moderated by Karl Johan Bonnedahl, associate professor at the Umeå School of Business and Economics. Sara Bjärstorp, executive director of Forum for Social Innovation Sweden, and visiting professor Malin Lindberg will open the seminar.  

Seeks to strengthen the academic community

“We look forward to bringing together researchers to share the latest insights on social innovation. Through these seminars, we aim to strengthen the academic community and contribute to the development of knowledge that can help address societal challenges,” says Malin Lindberg, visiting professor of social innovation at Malmö University. 

Lunchtime Webinars

In summary: the seminars are held online during lunchtime, either in Swedish or English. The upcoming seminars are scheduled for May 26 and August 25, all from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. TThe seminar series is open to all interested researchers and doctoral students. Participation is free of charge and takes place online via Teams.
