This report outlinesthe the social innovation ecosystem in Sweden, as part of the European consortium Building Capacity for a Sustainable Society (BuiCaSuS) funded by the European Commission to establish centers of excellence for social innovation in its member states – where Forum for Social Innovation (Forum for Social Innovation Sweden) at Malmö University coordinates the Swedish efforts. It summarizes results from previous surveys and reports and describes the conditions, functions, and actors involved in the Swedish ecosystem, outlining opportunities and challenges.
As this report shows, there is currently a need for dedicated ecosystems for social innovation and social enterprise. In the long term, however, an even wider range of stakeholders will need to adopt socially innovative approaches to tackle complex societal challenges, revitalize the Swedish welfare system, and achieve the global sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda.
To strengthen the social innovation ecosystem in Sweden, this report offers recommendations.
