Forum for Social Innovation Sweden Malmö University is launching a new initiative with the Social Innovation Foresight series. The first event, on November 9, will focus on Social Imagination, and the keynote speaker will be Geoff Mulgan, a professor at University College London and a well-known figure in the field of social innovation.

Through the Social Innovation Foresight concept, Forum for Social Innovation Sweden combines Forum for Social Innovation Sweden events with a new film series. Each Foresight event will offer a glimpse into the future through the insights of thought leaders, visionary thinkers, and new pioneers. It will be an opportunity to engage with innovative and creative insights and conversations that spark new ideas and expand knowledge.

“Through Foresight, we want to offer everyone interested the opportunity to look ahead, see what lies just around the corner, and reflect on what we can do together to bring about social change,” says Sara Bjärstorp, Executive Director of Forum for Social Innovation Sweden.

The theme of the first Social Innovation Foresight is Social Imagination.

“Today, we find it difficult to imagine creative visions of the future. Most people find it easier to picture ecological disasters or dystopias than to imagine and fantasize about how society could be better a generation from now,” says Geoff Mulgan, professor of Collective Intelligence, Public Policy, and Social Innovation at University College London (UCL).

How can we overcome this crisis and reclaim our ingenuity? How can we foster social and public imagination within organizations and society? And what can we do, as individuals and as a collective, to find new paths and shape future social realities?

Geoff Mulgan will deliver a brief keynote address and then participate in a live discussion with guests Cassie Robinson, Deputy Director of Funding Strategy at The National Lottery Community Fund in England, and Roope Mokka, a futurist and urbanist specializing in social transformation and one of the founders of Demos Helsinki, an international think tank based in Finland. The moderator is Johanna Koljonen, a Finland-Swedish author, TV host, and media analyst.

Social Innovation Foresight #1 will take place on November 9 and will be broadcast live from a studio in Malmö. The event is free of charge, will be held online, and will be conducted in English.
