It’s official. The University of Borås will become a new regional hub for Forum for Social Innovation Sweden. It will be the sixth university to join the national knowledge and collaboration platform for social innovation.
Today, the University of Borås conducts education and research in collaboration with the business community, the public sector, and the cultural sector. The university has several well-known and established educational and research environments, including the School of Textiles, the School of Library and Information Science, and the School of Police Studies. Research in sustainable development is characterized by interdisciplinary approaches, innovative thinking, and collaboration with local and global communities.
“The establishment of Forum for Social Innovation Sweden as a regional hub within Science Park Borås at the University of Borås will help strengthen the research community’s ability to contribute to a sustainable and inclusive societal transition at the local, regional, and national levels, as well as internationally through EU cooperation,” says Ulrika Sjölund, Regional Manager at Forum for Social Innovation Sweden Borås.
Supports municipalities and promotes innovation

There are currently six science parks in Västra Götaland. Science Park Borås is committed to promoting sustainable social development in the Sjuhärad/Borås region by supporting local municipalities in their transition efforts through science-based approaches in both theory and practice. Science Park Borås contributes to the promotion of innovation and commercialization in the fields of textiles, consumption, and social development, with a focus on innovation for societal transformation, in line with Agenda 2030, the European Green Deal, and the New European Bauhaus.
Support for innovation aimed at societal renewal and transformation—particularly in the areas of democracy, culture, creativity, and inclusive societies—needs to be strengthened. Complex societal challenges require multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration.

Being part of several international networks and partnerships for exchange and knowledge development is part of Science Park Borås’ mission,” says Ulrika Sjölund.
Sixth Regional Forum for Social Innovation Sweden Node
Forum for Social Innovation Sweden the University of Borås will become the sixth regional Forum for Social Innovation Sweden hub for knowledge and collaboration on social innovation, joining the hubs at Jönköping University, Luleå University of Technology, Malmö University, Umeå University, and Örebro University.

The University of Borås’s profile also helps broaden the knowledge base within Forum for Social Innovation Sweden,” says Charlotte Ahlgren Moritz, chair of the steering committee for Forum for Social Innovation Sweden vice president at Malmö University.
Coalition Model to Support the Development of Forum for Social Innovation Sweden Forum for Social Innovation Sweden Forum for Social Innovation Sweden
This fall, work will begin on developing a regional node through a collaborative process involving Forum for Social Innovation Sweden secretariat and participating universities. This process will help build support for and establish collaboration with stakeholders in the research and innovation ecosystem.
– We will utilize the Forum for Social Innovation Sweden coalition model, which can be applied to collaborative dialogues aimed at fostering understanding and sharing knowledge by bringing together stakeholders from all sectors. Examples of goal-oriented work could include catalyzing collaboration and innovative partnerships within a specific societal challenge or mission. The first task is to come together in a co-creative dialogue around the organization’s strategic objectives, says Ulrika Sjölund.
